Don’t think they can afford much. I don’t see jumbo going there. Oil would need to over pay anyone even with McDavid. |

This poop doesn’t interest me much. Get healthy . Get a goalie. Move out Kassian and either Barrie or Keith if it’s at all possible. Other than that and resigning or replacing Kane I say stick with the group we have and hope for internal improvements. I don’t see any pricey additions above that helping matters. |

How desperate are the Oilers to really want to move Barrie? Or is it more fans want him gone? |

Is there really a long list of players wanting to sign a one year deal to make bank in a year's time? Low value players that won't get an offer perhaps. Hyman signed a long term deal at the max he would get. Barrie got paid to sign for 3 years. Kane picked a team where he would get top 3 minutes and lots of PP time. Had it been a full season, it would have been closer to $5M or more.
The McDavid effect is both positive and negative. Ask Hall, Eberle, and now Puljujarvi. You have to fit the type of game he wants you to play. If that means as a shooter, you are stuck going to the net for rebounds or passing off, then you better do it. Or you need to go to the boards and get the puck to him. |

Resigning Kane and getting a goalie are priorities . The cap relief is desperately needed. |

That whole "discount to play with a superstar" thing is complete nonsense. Every year some Pens fans used that to list all the FA's we would be signing to play with Sid/Geno. Go back and name any that happened. In fact we traded for Hossa to play with them and he bolted after a couple months. It's a big myth. |

I think that you will see it more nowadays though, with so many teams capped out. There will be players that want to bet on themselves after a down year. Barrie did it on a one year contract here before re-upping for more. Kane did it mid season last year. They are not signing long term bargain deals just to play with a superstar, just 1 year deals to max out a long term contract the year after.
Although he is still RFA, DeAngelo in Carolina is another example, sign a 1 year deal with a good team to pad stats after getting bad press elsewhere, then make bank on the next deal. |

Resign Kane is the best plan and pick up Ullmark from Boston. None of the five mentioned can complete with Kane and Ullmark is a steady if not spectacular goalie that could be had at 5 mil, use Skinner as back up. |

I just don't see Ulmark as the answer anyway. Bruins would be ecstatic to dump his contract, and give Swayman the net. Maybe if Kassian was going the other way, but even then that's just a partial fix. |

The McDavid Effect is negated by the income tax effect and the have to live in Edmonton effect.
What's your prospect pool looking like these days? |
|
|

The only " McDavid Effect"worth mentioning is the laughter among players when they discuss the look of outright disgust on McDavid's face when the Oil won the 2015 draft lottery. |

You do realize that Alberta is the 5 th lowest taxes in the nhl???
Nah didnt think so. California players pay far more in tax than Alberta players. |

Yeah it’s not a fix. I think Kane is gone and Ulmark is meh with a worse contract than Koskinen had. |

While California and NY are indeed worse, Edm is far from the 5th lowest taxes in the NHL.

It would come at the expense of upgrading or buffering other positions on the roster. That being said, while somewhat restrictive, the cap situation isn't as bad as it looks upon first glance.
7.13mil cap space
Klefbom to LTIR adds 4.17mil
Smith is reported as very likely to go to LTIR so add 2.2mil
That puts them around 13.5mil without any trades, of which there a good number. Some of these would require a hint of creative cap management which isn't something Holland is known for, but it's not like there aren't ways to open up space. |
